"I've had the privilege of working with Joe for the past 16 years. There is much to say about Joe...

Joe was always there for his family, his friends, his colleagues, his patients. Anyone who knows Joe knows him as a loving father. The fact that the Lord called him on St. Joseph's Feast Day was no random event. Like St. Joseph who protected the Holy Family, Joe protected and provided for the physical and emotional needs of his family. Despite his busy schedule at work he was never to busy to talk to Luci or the kids. In fact it was not unusual for him to leave his cell phone on to go off during surgery. "It's Luci, she wants you to pick up some milk on the way home." No detail was too small. He was never to busy to enjoy the moment and the person he was with.

Joe's concept of family went beyond his immediate family. His medical practice was his family too. He was genuine in his concern for his staff and his patients. Their problems were his problems. Their happiness was his happiness. Our office staff would do anything for him ~ not because he demanded it but because we were returning his goodness and generosity.

Professionally, Joe enjoyed nothing more than bringing new life and happiness into the world. Although he had delivered thousands of babies he loved making each birth special as if it were his first delivery. Joe had an incredible gift of making people feel good. He might recall a story, an interest, or ask about a family member -- he would always know the right thing to say to make you smile. Even without saying anything his reassuring presence would calm the most anxious mother with a difficult pregnancy or console the woman who experienced the pain of a pregnancy loss.

Joe meets his maker with no regrets. It is said, very accurately, that partnership is like a marriage. I've spent an incredible amount of time with Joe, shared much of his pain and his joy. He has been more than a partner to me; he has been my friend who I love like a brother. I too have no regrets. There is now this emptiness in our lives that we all feel. We wonder how we can go on without Joe. For myself, I find consolation in just thanking God for the time I enjoyed with this magnificent man.

Joe has left a legacy. By incorporating it into our own lives, he will endure."
